The SB Baitfish is a tough, versatile baitfish pattern designed by top US flyfisher Ian Slater for fishing mangroves, backwaters, drains, edges and dirty little ambush zones where predators are waiting for an easy meal.
It is a brilliant estuary fly for barra, trevally, mangrove jack and queenfish, with a baitfish profile that looks right in the sort of water where prawns, mullet, herring and small bait get pushed around by tide and current.
It is also a very handy travel fly. Pack a few for species like peacock bass, black bass, dorado and snook, or anywhere you need a strong, reliable baitfish pattern that can handle aggressive takes and tough fish.
Tied on the super sharp and strong Gamakatsu SL12S, the SB Baitfish has the hook strength needed for serious saltwater and tropical work. Fish it around mangrove edges, snags, drains, creek mouths and backwater structure where predators sit tight and hit hard.
Best for: Barra, trevally, mangrove jack, queenfish, snook, peacock bass, black bass, dorado and general estuary flyfishing.
