Sage Arrow Fly Rods

The new workhorse — replacing the Sonic, and punching well above its weight

The Sage Arrow is the rod we’ve been waiting for since the Sonic left the lineup. It’s Sage’s modern, do-everything fly rod — built to deliver that crisp, fast, confidence-inspiring feel Sage is known for, without stepping into full R8 price territory. If you loved the Sonic, this is its natural successor. If you’ve been eyeing off R8 performance but want something a bit more attainable (and less precious), the Sage Arrow hits a very sweet spot.

This is a rod designed for anglers who actually fish — early starts, long days, changing conditions, and everything from tiny dries to chunky streamers. Whether you’re drifting dries on a calm morning on the Ovens, rolling nymphs through deeper runs on the Kiewa, or throwing streamers into a headwind on Lake Wendouree, the Sage Arrow Fly Rod feels intuitive, balanced and dependable in hand.

For 2026, Sage refined the Arrow using their Konnetic HD technology, giving the rod faster recovery, cleaner loops and better feel without making it stiff or unforgiving. What that means on the water is simple: it loads easily up close, tracks beautifully through the cast, and still has plenty in reserve when you need distance or authority. It’s smooth, confidence-boosting, and forgiving enough to fish all day — exactly what most of us want in a daily driver.

Finished in a classic Flint blank with clean, understated trim, the Arrow looks right at home anywhere from small mountain streams to big open water. It’s high-performance without being flashy, and built to be fished hard.

Built for real-world fishing

Every Sage Arrow is built with durable, quality components that make sense for everyday use: hard chrome snake guides, ceramic stripping guides for smooth line flow, premium cork grips, and anodised reel seats that lock things down properly. Each rod comes with a cloth bag and sturdy tube — no fuss, no fluff, just ready to go.

3wt – 5wt: Technical finesse and light-water precision

The lighter Sage Arrow fly rod models are tuned for trout fishing and technical presentations where feel, accuracy and control really matter. These rods load smoothly at close range, recover quickly for tight loops, and still carry enough punch for longer casts when needed. Perfect for dry flies, nymph rigs and lighter streamers, the 3–5wt range shines on rivers, creeks and lakes where finesse is key.

Best for: trout streams, dry fly work, nymphing, light streamers, precise casting in tighter water.

Features in this range:
• Refined fast action for sensitive presentations
• Smooth loading for short and medium-range casts
• Excellent feedback through the blank
• Premium cork handles matched to balanced reel seats

6wt – 8wt: Streamers, wind and bigger targets

Step up to the 6–8wt models and you’ll find serious pulling power for bigger flies, heavier lines and tougher conditions. With reinforced mid and butt sections, these rods drive sink tips, punch through wind and handle larger fish with confidence. They’re ideal for streamer fishing, bass, estuary species and light saltwater work when you need extra backbone without losing casting feel.

Best for: streamer fishing, big rivers, windy days, bass and estuary species, heavier tippets and bigger fish.

Features in this range:
• Strong, punchy action for larger flies
• Efficient energy transfer for higher line speed
• Comfortable handling under load
• Robust hardware built for regular use
