Renomed FT2 Straight Tweezer

by Renomed
$44.95

The FT2 is the fine tipped pair you keep beside the vice for all the small jobs. The tips come down to roughly 0.2mm and they meet dead flush, so you can pick up a single fibre, a size 22 hook or one strand of Krystal Flash without chasing it around the bench.

At 140mm these are the longer of the Renomed tweezers, which gives you better reach and a lighter, more controlled action. The extra length also means you are not crowding the fly with your fingers when you are working in close.

Two jobs they do particularly well. First, lifting feathers out of a packet without crushing or bending them, which anyone who has wrecked a good pair of CDC feathers getting them out of the bag will appreciate. Second, cleaning up a finished fly, picking off stray fibres and loose hairs that would otherwise need a blade or a fingernail near the head.

Every pair is hand sharpened and adjusted, which is the reason the tips actually align. Cheap fine tweezers cross over at the point and become useless for anything small, and these do not.

About Renomed

Renomed tools are handmade in a historic granary in western Poland by a family business with 30 years of craft behind them. Every piece starts as high grade stainless steel formed by precision bending rather than forging, a lower impact process that gives the tools their distinctive shape and strength. From there each one is hardened, hand ground, sharpened and precisely adjusted. It is the sort of detail you notice the first time you use one. The design has won several international awards and Renomed tools now sell in 15 countries, but the real test is longevity. Look after them and they will hold their shape and their edge for years on the tying bench, not months.

Our take

If you only own one pair of tweezers on the bench, make it this one. The FT2 covers the widest range of jobs, and the fine tip is what separates it from the pair you have in the bathroom drawer. Tiers who spend most of their time stripping hackle stems should look at the FT4 with its wide flat tips instead, but for everything fine and fiddly, the FT2 is the one that stays within arm's reach.
