The key to this fly is the coloured ribbing and the hot cheek. These elements against the black body allow the fly to look deadly close to the blood worm, or larva stage of the midge.

A very effective large buzzer pattern designed to imitate the natural chironomid by having a red rib to simulate the blood filled body of the natural pupa
