Nautilus X-Series Fly Reels

$659.95
Colour: Black

The Nautilus X Series is a light, tough, open frame reel built for freshwater flyfishing and light saltwater work. It has a smooth sealed drag, fast line pickup and a frame designed to cop the knocks of real fishing days.

Built light, built strong

The X Series frame uses strong beams running from the centre out to a wide line guard. That shape does more than look good. It protects the rear of the spool rim, which is the bit that usually hits the ground when you lean your rod against the car or the pub wall.

The ventilated arch design and dual palming rim make the spool 35% stronger. The frame leaves the spool fully exposed, so you can palm it easily, and there’s a generous secondary palming rim on the back for extra control when a fish takes off.

The spool is based on Nautilus’ award winning Giga arbor design and is the lightest spool of its size they’ve ever made. Large arbor means quick line pickup, which matters when a fish turns and runs straight at you.

A sealed drag that just works

The SCF X drag is a sealed Teflon and carbon fibre disc system. It’s smooth from start up, consistent under load and keeps grit and water out.

The drag knob is big and textured, so it’s easy to adjust with wet or cold fingers. Anyone who’s fished a Victorian high country stream in October will appreciate that.

Which size?

  • XS for 3 and 4 weights. Small streams, dry flies, light nymphing.
  • XM for 4 and 5 weights. The all rounder for most trout rivers and lakes.
  • XL for 6 and 7 weights. Bigger rivers, streamers, windy lakes and larger trout.
  • XL MAX for 8 and 9 weights. Same 4" frame with a deeper Giga arbor spool. Ideal for natives, carp and light saltwater.

At just 133g (4.7oz), the XL and XL MAX are impressively light for the line weights they handle.

Our take

The X Series is light, the drag is excellent, and it’s tough enough to throw in the back of the car and forget about.
