The Guru has long been one of the best value machined reels on the market, and the X keeps that going. The Guru has been one of Lamson’s most trusted reels for years, and the Guru X is the latest version of it. Same simple, clean design. Same sealed conical drag. Just tougher, stiffer and nicer to use, without adding weight.

Lamson has made a handful of small changes that you’ll notice on the water. The drag knob is bigger and fluted, with indexed clicks, so it’s easy to find and adjust with cold or wet hands. The handle is thicker and shaped for a better grip. The reel foot has a radiused base for a cleaner fit in the reel seat. Nothing flashy, just a better reel.

Who it’s for

The Guru X is a workhorse that covers a lot of ground. The 3+ and 5+ suit trout from small streams through to big rivers and lakes. The 7+ handles heavier trout lines, carp and light saltwater. The 9+ steps up to saltwater flats, kingfish on the fly and Murray cod.
