AFO Hinchinbrook 2024 Event Overview
This year’s challenge runs from August 26th to 28th, 2024, starting with a pre-event briefing at Lucinda Point Hotel on August 25th. Teams of two or three flyfishers per boat will compete over three days in the expansive and varied Hinchinbrook Channel. The diverse flyfishing environments, including estuaries, mangroves, and flats, create an engaging competition that pushes participants to their limits.
The well-organised event includes four evening meals and a sampler bag from sponsors, providing participants with both essential gear and moments to connect with fellow flyfishers. It’s a perfect balance of intense flyfishing and social engagement, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
Why Hinchinbrook?
Hinchinbrook is renowned for its rich and diverse flyfishing environment. The channel is home to a wide variety of saltwater species, making it a prime destination for flyfishers looking to challenge themselves against Australia’s most sought-after game fish. The mix of estuaries, mangroves, and tidal flats creates a dynamic flyfishing environment that tests even the most experienced flyfishers.
Beyond the fishing, Hinchinbrook’s remote and pristine surroundings add to the appeal. Whether you're casting for barramundi in the mangroves or chasing trevally on the flats, the Hinchinbrook Channel offers a flyfishing experience like no other, combining natural beauty with world-class fishing opportunities.
