Philip Weigall talks Winter Options. Thursday June 13th 6PM
‘If you live in Victoria, it can be tempting to drift into a sort of flyfishing hibernation over winter. It’s cold, the streams are closed… maybe it’s just easier to stay indoors, tie flies, read back issues of FlyStream and wait for September?
But surprisingly, winter has become one of my favourite times of year. Without the addictive pull of trout streams to distract me, I can give my full attention to the lakes, estuaries and salt. And it turns out these aren’t just some sort of fill-in for a desperado. I think my best day anywhere last year was on a Snowy Mountains lake in August; the year before it was quite possibly a bream session on the Aire River in south-west Victoria in July.
It turns out that winter on the Snowy lakes and western Victorian lakes; plus the estuaries, rocks and beaches of Victoria’s central and western coast, really are an annual highlight in their own right – if you plan and fish correctly.’
Join us from 6PM in our boardroom. (Entry via shop)
The boardroom is the ideal learning facility with a bar and big screen. Drinks and snacks are provided so you can settle in and learn from some of the worlds most knowledgeable flyfishers.
If you're driving, we strongly suggest parking across the road from the shop in Fry's Fast Park. (Usually $15 evening rate).
